A tribute concert celebrating the iconic soundtrack of 'The Lord of the Rings' film trilogy, composed by Howard Shore, performed by the Mystery Ensemble.
Mystery Ensemble are playing Portsmouth Cathedral on Saturday 11 July, with a full programme dedicated to the music of The Lord of the Rings. It's a tribute to Howard Shore, the composer who scored Peter Jackson's trilogy and picked up three Academy Awards, a Golden Globe and a Grammy for his work on the films.
The set works through the musical motifs of Tolkien's Middle-earth, with themes tied to the story's different peoples — the Shire, the elves and the dwarves. You'll hear pieces like 'May it be' and 'The Grace of Undomiel' alongside the more recognisable melodies that run through the films. It's a good way to hear the score as a whole rather than in the fragments that usually crop up in the movies.
Mystery Ensemble is a modern orchestra of professional musicians founded in 2021 by Almin Alexander. They specialise in arrangements of soundtracks from big film and TV franchises — The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Star Wars and Wednesday are among the ones they've taken on — as well as classical repertoire. The concert is produced by RED EVENTS & Distribution ltd, a creative agency that stages live music in historic venues across Europe.
