The Music of Motown at Christmas comes to Portsmouth Cathedral on Friday 4 December, part of a run of candlelight concerts held across the city this autumn and winter. It's a Motown tribute set in the cathedral, with the music played beneath the glow of countless candles. The local press describes it as an evening to get you ready for the festive season.
It's one of several candlelight services taking place at Portsmouth Cathedral and St Jude's Church throughout October, November and December. The cathedral is running other nights in the same period, too. There's Night at the Opera, with four soloists and a live orchestra playing classics by Mozart, Rossini, Puccini and Donizetti, and The Music of Adele, in which The Voice finalist Naomi Johnson re-creates Adele's songbook. If you're not in the mood for Motown, you can swap it for opera or Adele and still get the same candlelight setting.
