Sunday Makers Market

The Sunday Makers Market returns to Southsea Castle on Sunday 2 November, from 11am until 3.30pm. It's a regular exhibition and sale of original work by local artists, designers, makers and crafters, with paintings, prints, sculptures and jewellery on the tables. It's the kind of thing where you can buy something directly from the person who actually made it, rather than picking it up from a shop shelf.

The market is held in The Courtyard, and the whole thing runs in a family-friendly atmosphere with seaside views across the castle grounds. One of the better perks is that you get free entry to the Southsea Castle museum while you browse, so you can wander through the exhibition and then take a look around the museum without having to choose between the two. If you're going with kids, it's a decent way to combine a bit of local art with a proper day out by the coast.

If you're planning to stay a while, The Courtyard Bar & Restaurant is open all day, serving breakfast, lunch, tea and cake, as well as brunch and Sunday Roasts. It's a good spot to grab a table and a roast after you've spent the morning looking at the stalls.
