A community running and walking event with 2K and 5K routes, suitable for all ages and abilities, held at Hilsea Lido.
Run-Walk Local is back at Hilsea Lido this Sunday morning, 16 August, as part of its regular Sunday run. It's a community event that runs every Sunday from the Lido car park in Portsmouth (PO2 9RP), and it's open to all ages and abilities, so you can turn up with whoever you fancy.
There are two routes to choose from. The 2K course is the one that tends to draw families and people getting back into exercise, and the 5K is there if you're after something a bit longer. You can pick your distance on the day, and you're welcome to run it, walk it, or do a bit of both. The whole thing is run by volunteers, from the organisers to the marshals, and it's billed as the successor to Great Run Local.
The organisers describe it as a community event that values support over speed, and they keep the atmosphere deliberately low-pressure — the kind of setting where friendships form and confidence grows. It's not about the clock, so it works just as well if you're out for a gentle stroll as if you're looking to push yourself a bit. Local sponsors including Hilsea Lines Cafe, Alexander Sports, Out There Pics and Semmens of Southsea support the event, with photography by Ryan Shelley of Out There Images.
