A community running and walking event with 2K and 5K courses, open to all ages and abilities, held every Sunday morning at Hilsea Lido.
Run-Walk Local is a community running and walking event that gathers every Sunday morning at Hilsea Lido, and the next one is tomorrow, Sunday 9 August. It's a free session open to all ages and abilities, so you don't need to be a runner to get involved โ walking is just as much a part of it as running.
There are two courses to choose from: a 2K and a 5K. The shorter one is particularly popular with families and with people returning to exercise, while the 5K gives you a bit more to work with. The whole thing is run by a volunteer team, with every marshal a volunteer, and the organisers are still looking for more people to join them. It's billed as the successor to Great Run Local, so if you remember that, this is the new version.
The atmosphere is deliberately social, with friendships forming on the route and people growing in confidence as they go. It's more about support and encouragement than speed, so you can take it at your own pace without any pressure to keep up with the faster crowd. The event is supported by local sponsors including Hilsea Lines Cafe, Alexander Sports, Out There Pics and Semmens of Southsea, with photography by Ryan Shelley of Out There Images.
