Community sports day with basketball skills, games, dunk contest, music and food as part of Portsmouth100.
Portsmouth Force Basketball Club are bringing the Portsmouth Force Summer Slam back to Admiral Lord Nelson School on Sunday 12 July, from 12:00 to 16:00. It's the second time they've run the day, the first being in 2025, and this year it's part of the Portsmouth100 celebrations.
They're turning the school grounds into a community sports hub for the afternoon, and it's built around basketball skills sessions, friendly games, shooting challenges and a dunk contest. There's also music, food and community stalls to keep things going between the games. It's a festival-style setup, so you can drift in and out of the different bits rather than sticking to one thing.
The club describes it as a celebration of grassroots sport, inclusion and local pride, and they've made it open to everyone, not just basketball fans. The whole thing is meant to be relaxed, so it works as much for families as it does for people who actually play. If you've never picked up a ball, the skills sessions are a good place to start; if you're already playing, the friendly games and shooting challenges give you something to get stuck into. The dunk contest is the big showpiece of the day, and the music, food and stalls fill in the gaps around it.

It's free to attend, and it runs from 12:00 to 16:00 at Admiral Lord Nelson School on Dundas Lane, Portsmouth. With the food and community stalls on site, it's an easy one to spend a few hours at without needing to plan much else for the day.
