Hatstand Opera brings free, informal opera to Victoria Park as part of the Portsmouth100 celebrations, with Kirsty guiding the audience through the performance.
Hatstand Opera are back at Victoria Park on Sunday 26 July, their return to the park by popular demand. They're bringing their signature informal style to the outdoor setting, playing all the best bits of opera and musicals rather than a full production. Mezzosoprano and compere Kirsty threads the evening, explaining what is being sung and why, so you can follow along even if you've never set foot in an opera house.
It's an outdoor performance, so the plan is to settle in on a rug or in a chair and bring your own picnic supper. Hot drinks and refreshments will be available to purchase on site, and there's a free programme and toilets too. The whole thing is part of Portsmouth100, the year-long programme of cultural events curated by Portsmouth City Council to mark the city's centenary year.
