Oktoberfest comes to Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, as part of what's billed as the UK's biggest Oktoberfest tour. It's a Bavarian celebration brought right into the city centre, and it runs across two days, so you've got a couple of chances to get involved.
On the Saturday, there are two separate sessions: an afternoon one from 12:00 to 17:00 and an evening one from 18:00 to 23:00. If you're not a late-night person, the afternoon slot lets you get your fix and still be home for tea; if you'd rather spend the whole evening there, the later session runs until 11.00. The event is strictly over-18s, and you'll need to show ID at the door, so don't forget to bring it with you.
Inside, it's all the Bavarian staples: Oompah bands, live music, XL bier steins, gourmet bratwurst and pretzels, lederhosen and singalongs. The Guildhall's historic room adds to the atmosphere, and there are a few extras you can sort in advance: you can pre-order your drinks and get discounted parking. One thing to keep in mind is that cameras and tablets aren't allowed inside, so you'll be leaving yours at home or in the car.
