Miriam Margolyes is coming to Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday 24 October, her first time on a Portsmouth stage in years. She's nearly 85 and returns to the boards following three bestselling memoirs and several sold-out tours, and the show takes its title from her new book, Miriam's Full English.
There's a bit of a story behind the name. Margolyes spent years exploring the world through her BBC series, and in this book she turns that same documentary-maker's eye back home. The title Full English is a play on the breakfast: wildly different things piled together on one plate. That's exactly what she's promising on stage — memories, politics, filth and lashings of sauce, with naughty confessions and a no-holds-barred Q&A where no question is off-limits. It's the sort of evening where she'll be talking over the audience as much as to them.
It's not just a one-off, either. The show is touring across the islands, with dates in Scotland, Wales and Ireland as well as England, so Portsmouth is one stop on a wider run. If you've followed her memoirs, this is the live version of that same voice: outspoken, unfiltered and entirely her own. She's billed as Britain's most outspoken national treasure, and the 'no-holds-barred' part of the Q&A is usually where the real fun happens.

Doors open at 7pm at Portsmouth Guildhall, and tickets run from £42.55 to £84.65 depending on where you sit. If you're planning to ask her something during the Q&A, it might be worth getting in early.
