Maddie Morris

Maddie Morris plays The Lens Studio at Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday 17 October, with the show starting at 7.30pm. Morris is a BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner, and Jim Moray has described them as 'leading the next generation of socially conscious songwriters'.

Their music works out how personal narratives in song can hold deep political importance. They blend folk traditions and the protest song with their perspective as a queer autistic person to write about identity, gender, disability, survival and joy in community. It's the kind of songwriting that starts with a specific life and finds the wider, political thread running through it.

There's an optional interactive side to the show: zines filled with playful doodles and reflective prompts that the audience can fill in, which then contribute to a larger collaborative piece. It's something you can get involved with if you fancy it, rather than just sitting and listening.

On the practical side, no cameras or tablets are allowed inside, and under-14s must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are £14.50, which includes a 13% booking fee. The show starts at 7.30pm at The Lens Studio, inside Portsmouth Guildhall.
