In conversation: Pressure: the history behind the new film

The D-Day Story is hosting a talk on Saturday 5 September, from 11:00 to 12:00, about the history behind the new film Pressure. It's a conversation between Dr Catherine Ross, from the National Meteorological Library and Archive at the Met Office, and Andrew Whitmarsh, curator of The D-Day Story, and it runs in collaboration with the Met Office.

Pressure focuses on the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, following General Dwight D. Eisenhower, played by Brendan Fraser, and Group Captain James Stagg, played by Andrew Scott. It's the window when the Allies had to decide whether to launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether. The talk looks at how the Allies predicted the weather for D-Day and what the consequences would have been had they got it wrong.

It's a good chance to get a bit of the real story behind the film before it hits cinemas on 9 September. The conversation is held at The D-Day Story in Portsmouth, so it's right in the city for anyone who's already planning a visit that day.

Tickets are £5, but it's free if you've got a ticket to visit The D-Day Story on the day (subject to availability) or a current annual museum pass. The talk runs from 11:00 to 12:00 on Saturday 5 September.
