Theatretrain's full-scale production of the classic musical Grease, featuring over 100 young performers in a historic venue.
Theatretrain Portsmouth are bringing Grease - School Edition to the New Theatre Royal on Saturday 25 July. It's a full-scale production of the classic musical, and the cast is a big one — over 100 young performers on stage at once. If you've seen the film or the West End version, you'll recognise the songs: 'You're the One That I Want', 'Summer Nights', and 'Greased Lightnin'' are all in there. The show works around themes of youth, rebellion, and the thrill of first love, and with a cast that size, the ensemble numbers should be the real draw.
It's a local production, put together by Theatretrain Portsmouth, so it's a Portsmouth cast taking the stage rather than a touring company. That's a fair bit of the appeal — seeing a hundred young people from around the city pull a full musical together on a professional stage. The School Edition is adapted for younger casts, so it keeps the core story and the big songs while making it work for a school-age company.
