Disney's The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert Live to Film

Disney's The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert comes to Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday 14 December, as part of a 15-date UK tour. It's the 1992 film screened on the big screen, but with the musical score performed live by an orchestra in the room. If you've seen it before, it's the same story you know, just with the music played in real time rather than coming from the speakers.

For those who need a refresher, the Muppets take on Dickens' A Christmas Carol with Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit and Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge. Gonzo plays Dickens himself, narrating the tale with Rizzo the Rat by his side, while Miss Piggy takes on Emily Cratchit, Fozzie Bear turns up as Fozziwig and Robin the Frog plays Tiny Tim. It's the same cast and the same plot, just with the orchestra playing along as the film runs.

The original score was composed by Miles Goodman, who also worked on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Little Shop of Horrors, and the songs are by Paul Williams, including 'Rainbow Connection' and 'Evergreen'. Hearing those played live in the Guildhall rather than through a cinema system is the whole point of the night.

Doors open at 6.30pm, and tickets range from £41.20 to £82.35, which includes a 17.5% booking fee. A couple of things to keep in mind: under-14s have to be accompanied by an adult, and cameras and tablets aren't allowed inside.
