Award-winning comedy night hosted by James Alderson at the iconic Spinnaker Tower, featuring established and rising UK comedy stars.
Comedy at the Tower is back at the Spinnaker Tower on Friday 7 August, part of a run that's been going since 6 March and keeps on through to 9 December. It's an independently run comedy night, hosted and organised by James Alderson, who puts together the bills and keeps the evening moving.
The line-up follows a familiar format: a mix of established names and rising stars from the UK comedy circuit. You'll get a few comics you might recognise from TV or the festival circuit alongside newer acts who are still working their way up. Because it's a regular night rather than a one-off, the bills change, so the room you walk into on 7 August will be different from the one a few weeks before or after.
The venue is the main thing that sets this apart. The tower stands 170 metres above the harbour at Gunwharf Quays, and from up there you can see across the city, the Solent, and over to the Isle of Wight. There's a fully stocked bar on hand, and the viewing deck is often accessible before the show, so you can have a look at the view before the comedy kicks off. It's a night-time experience that doesn't really happen anywhere else in Portsmouth.

Tickets are £25, and the tower is at Gunwharf Quays, PO1 3TT. With the run going until December, it's one of those things you can slot in whenever you fancy a night out in the city.
