Carole King's Tapestry

Lewes Music bring a tribute to Carole King to The Lens Studio at Portsmouth Guildhall on Sunday 20 September, as part of their show An Evening in Laurel Canyon. It's a live six-piece band with backing vocals, so it's a full band on stage rather than a solo act.

The night is split into two halves. The first half looks at the whole Laurel Canyon scene, with songs from the artists who defined that era: James Taylor, The Byrds, America, Eagles, The Doors, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, CSNY and Joni Mitchell. The second half focuses on King herself, with Tapestry played in its entirety. If you know the album, you'll hear it from start to finish.

It's a night for anyone who likes the singer-songwriter sound of the late sixties and seventies. The first half gathers a good range of names from that circle, and the second stays with one of the biggest records of the period. The whole thing is performed by a six-piece band with backing vocals, so the arrangements have a full sound to them.

Tickets are 23,85 EUR, which includes a 13% booking fee. There's also a combined ticket for Joni Mitchell's Blue and Carole King's Tapestry for 36,40 EUR. The show starts at 19:30 on Sunday 20 September at The Lens Studio, Portsmouth Guildhall. It's open to all ages, though anyone under 14 needs to be accompanied by an adult over 18.
