A relaxed afternoon of live blues music with open jamming for musicians and listeners of all skill levels, with a PA system provided.
The Blues Jam is taking place at The Lens Studio on Sunday, 23rd August 2026. It’s an afternoon session, running from 1.00pm until 4.00pm, designed to bring people together for live blues music in a relaxed setting.
The format is intentionally open, welcoming both musicians who want to get up and play and those who simply want to come along and listen. Because it is open to all ages and skill levels, the session tends to attract a variety of people, from experienced players to those just starting out. If you are planning to perform, you don't need to worry about the technical side of things; the organisers provide a full PA system. This means you can just bring your instrument and plug in, making it easier to jump into the music without having to haul heavy gear across town.
There is a clear purpose behind these sessions that goes beyond the music itself. The proceeds from the event are used to support the development of young musicians who are engaged with The BASE. As the venue’s dedicated creative space for young people, The BASE relies on this kind of support to keep providing resources and opportunities for the next generation of local talent. By attending, you are directly contributing to that development.

Tickets for the afternoon are priced at £4. It’s a straightforward way to spend a Sunday afternoon, whether you are looking to play or just want to hear some live blues. The session runs for three hours, giving plenty of time for different musicians to take the stage and for the audience to settle in. If you’re interested in the local music scene or want to support the work being done at The BASE, it’s a good opportunity to see how the space is used. You can head down to The Lens Studio at Portsmouth Guildhall for the 1.00pm start.
