The Illuminated Orchestra are playing at Portsmouth Guildhall on Thursday 1 October, with a set built around the dark fantasy film music of Tim Burton. It's a 75-minute concert, and the whole thing is performed under the glow of a giant moon on stage.
The setlist pulls from Burton's gothic fantasy films and a few other cult classics of the dark and magical. You'll hear themes from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland, Batman, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, Labyrinth, Wednesday, and The Addams Family. It's a wide sweep of the weird and whimsical, and it's all played live.
Behind the music is an 18-piece chamber orchestra of classically trained musicians, with evocative live vocals layered on top. The creators describe it as a brand-new orchestral journey into the magic, mischief, and melancholy of dark fantasy cinema, and it comes from the same team behind The Best of Hans Zimmer & Film Favourites Illuminated.
