An intimate classical concert with a live orchestra and four soloists performing arias and ensembles by Mozart, Rossini, Puccini and Donizetti, presented by Candlelight Concerts.
London Concertante are playing Portsmouth Cathedral on Sunday 4 October, with four soloists joining them for a night of opera arias and ensembles. The evening is called A Night at the Opera by Candlelight, and as the name suggests, the room will be lit by candlelight. It's presented by Candlelight Concerts, and they've made it clear they aren't affiliated with the Fever Original Candlelight series, so it's a separate thing from those.
On the music, the four soloists will be singing arias, duets, trios and quartets from Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Rossini and Bizet, all with the orchestra playing live. It's a broad run of the big names, so you'll hear a fair bit of the standard repertoire in one go rather than just one composer. The evening is built as an intimate, atmospheric experience, with the candlelight doing a good chunk of the work to set the mood.
London Concertante describe themselves as an orchestra whose audience includes around 50% first-time classical concert-goers, which gives you a sense of the kind of night they're aiming for. It's open to all ages, and seating is first-come, first-served within each ticket band, so if you've got a particular spot in mind, you'll want to get there a bit early.
