45 Lions: 100 Minutes

Cycling Without Age Portsmouth & Hayling Island are teaming up with Spark Community Space for a bit of a challenge on Friday 11 September: they're trying to visit every lion in Portsmouth in just 100 minutes, or as close as they can get. It's called 45 Lions: 100 Minutes, and the two organisations share a common mission of reducing social isolation and loneliness while bringing joy, connection and community spirit to local people.

It's part of the Portsmouth 100 festivities, a year-round programme of events and activities running throughout 2026 to mark the city's centenary. That includes live music, fireworks displays and a sculpture trail alongside the usual round of happenings, all given a centenary spin. Cycling Without Age regularly takes guests out on monthly trishaw rides across the city from Spark Community Space, and this event raises awareness and funds for that service.

On the day, three trishaws will set off from the north, east and west of the city, working their way through the lions. The whole thing kicks off around midday, and it all comes together with tea at Spark Community Space between 2pm and 3.30pm. If you're around on Friday 11 September, it's a good one to keep an eye out for.
