Vintage spooky film screening of The Shining (1980) at The Whitsell, part of the Vintage Spooky series.
The Whitsell is screening The Shining on Saturday, October 10, as part of a month of horror classics. It's the 1980 Stanley Kubrick version, the one with Jack Nicholson as the writer who takes a job as the winter caretaker of the Overlook Hotel, only to find the place has a few ghosts of its own.
The screening is part of Vintage Spooky, a series of haunting classics that runs from October 3 through October 31. The Shining is just one of the titles they're bringing to the screen over the course of the month, so if you're in the mood for old-school horror, there's more to it than just this one night.
It also falls under PAM CUT @ The Whitsell, the Portland Art Museum's new destination for programming in film, new media, and visual storytelling. That's the broader umbrella the museum is working under these days, and this is one of the ways they're filling the space with cinema. The Whitsell is located at 1219 SW Park Ave in downtown Portland.

If you've seen The Shining a dozen times, it's still a different thing to watch it on a big screen with a room full of people rather than on your couch. The whole thing is part of the museum's new focus on film and storytelling, so it's as much about the setting as it is about the movie itself. The screening is Saturday, October 10, at The Whitsell, 1219 SW Park Ave.
