Stand-up comedy hour by Vidura Bandara Rajapaksa, exploring immigration, anarchism and late-stage capitalism.
Vidura Bandara Rajapaksa brings his new hour, Paradise Gothic, to the Aladdin Theater on Thursday, October 15. It's a stand-up comedy hour that looks at immigration, anarchism, and late-stage capitalism.
Rajapaksa is a Sri Lankan comedian, writer, and director known for a deadpan style and postcolonial wit. He tends to aim his jokes at corporate tech culture, spiritual burnout, and the absurdities of trying to build a life within late-stage capitalism. Paradise Gothic is described as sharp and darkly funny, and the Portland date closes a 29-date run that's taken him across Asia, Australia, and North America.
He's no stranger to the self-directed, self-written special. Before this, he put out Monsoon Season in 2022, French Kiss Tunnel in 2024, and Woodapple Jam later that same year. This new hour continues that thread, with the same deadpan delivery and postcolonial lens he's built his work around.
