Taylor Rae, an Americana and roots-rock artist, performs live at Artichoke Music as part of the 'Live Music @ Artichoke!' series.
Taylor Rae plays Artichoke Music on Saturday, October 31, starting at 6:30 PM. She'll be performing with Lemongrass, as part of the 'Live Music @ Artichoke!' series run by Artichoke Community Music, a non-profit that builds community through music, offers classes in the folk tradition, and runs its own store and venue. The room is listed among Portland's listening rooms—small venues that host live acoustic music.
Rae comes from Santa Cruz, California, and first gained traction with Mad Twenties, her debut album, which spent more than 30 weeks on the Americana Radio charts. Its lead single, "Home on the Road," climbed into the Top 10, and she toured extensively behind it, playing alongside acts like Sierra Hull, John Craigie, and Pokey LaFarge. Her second release, The Void, produced by Grammy winner Eric Krasno, turned her attention inward and blended roadhouse roots-rock, modern-day folk, alternative, blues, and analog Americana. No Depression's Henry Carrigan praised her edgy vocals, which slide from tender folk ballads to soaring blues and blues-rock striders. She performs as a dynamic solo artist with an accomplished five-piece band.
