Oregon Ballet Theatre's production of the classic ballet Swan Lake, set to Tchaikovsky's score, with the OBT Orchestra performing live.
Oregon Ballet Theatre brings Swan Lake to the Keller Auditorium starting Saturday, October 10, for a run that stretches through October 17. It's a production of one of the most recognized ballets in the repertoire, and the company is staging it with the OBT Orchestra performing live at every single showing, rather than using a recording.
The story is a tragic romance set to Tchaikovsky's score: a prince meets a princess cursed to live as a swan and vows to save her at the royal ball, only to be tricked by an evil sorcerer into betraying her, dooming them both in an ethereal fairytale. The choreography is by Christopher Stowell, working after the original versions by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, and the company describes the production as an epitome of classical ballet.
