Annual spooky art show featuring works by local artists exploring Halloween themes such as skeletons, spiders and pumpkins.
Skeletons Out of the Closet is back at Alberta Street Gallery this October, the gallery's annual spooky art show returning for its third year. It runs from September 24 through October 26, open 11 AM to 7 PM daily, and it's hosted in Lavaun's Community Gallery, a space inside the gallery named for and made possible by member Lavaun Benavidez Heaster, a legally blind collage artist who died in 2020.
The show comes from an open call for art that's spooky, scary, strange, and out of the ordinary. It draws from more than ten local artists and captures the many shades of the Halloween season, from spiders and skeletons to pumpkins and trick-or-treaters. Because it's an open call, you'll see a range of styles and interpretations of the theme rather than a single artist's vision.
For context on the space, Alberta Street Gallery is a friendly, vibrant cooperative of 30 local professional artists in the historic Alberta Arts District of Northeast Portland. Their work spans ceramics and glass to painting and jewelry. The gallery mounts monthly shows that open on the last Thursday of every month, displays new work by two member artists in its front windows, and curates group shows in Lavaun's Community Gallery.
