A screening of the documentary Roadless followed by a discussion and Q&A with project leader Robert Lester.
OMSI is bringing the documentary Roadless to the Empirical Theater on Thursday, November 19, as part of its Reel Science series. The film runs 62 minutes and is rated G, and once the credits roll, the night continues with a discussion and Q&A led by Robert Lester, the project's leader.
Roadless follows three adventurers walking the entire 211-mile length of the proposed Ambler Mining Road in Alaska, 160 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Along the way, they cross tundra, wild rivers, and pristine forests, weighing the physical endurance of the trek against the natural beauty they find. The film asks what could be lost if the road is actually built.
Robert Lester leads the discussion that follows. He's a professional expedition athlete and environmental steward whose work combines firsthand exploration with conservation storytelling. The screening is part of Reel Science, OMSI's series that pairs movies and documentaries with expert guests to bring the science behind them to life on the big screen.
