Her first novel, Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, was published to acclaim in more than 20 countries. Her second, The Inheritance of Loss, won the Booker Prize in 2006 and the National Book Critics Circle Award, and it was shortlisted for the Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction. As the closing act of the 2026–27 season, Desai takes the stage at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 SW Broadway, in downtown Portland.
