Church of Film screening of the uncut, subtitled final episode of Pupi Avati's Italian horror miniseries.
Church of Film is bringing the final episode of Night Voices to The Clinton on Wednesday, October 14. It's the fifth and final part of a five-episode screening of the 1995 Italian horror miniseries, and this one is the uncut version with English subtitles.
If you haven't heard of Night Voices, it's a five-part series directed by Fabrizio Laurenti and starring Massimo Bonetti, Lorenzo Flaherty, and Jason Robards III. Among fans, it's often called the Italian Twin Peaks, and that gives you a decent sense of where it sits—atmospheric, strange, and built around a mystery that doesn't always resolve the way you'd expect. It originally aired on Italian public television and then basically vanished for nearly two decades, only resurfacing later in a heavily censored form. This screening is different: it's the original, uncut episodes, translated and subtitled into English by Church of Film.
Beyond the Twin Peaks comparison, the series is widely considered the lost masterwork of Pupi Avati, Italy's master of metaphysical horror. Avati's work usually trades in a slow-burn, unsettling kind of dread rather than jump scares, and Night Voices fits right into that. The series follows a small town where things aren't quite what they seem, and the uncut version lets the original pacing and tone breathe without the cuts that defined its later life.

Because this is the fifth episode, it's the one that brings the whole thing home. If you've been following along with the previous four, this is the one that ties it together; if you're just jumping in, it's still worth seeing as a standalone piece of Italian horror from a director who doesn't get nearly enough attention over here. The screening is on Wednesday, October 14, at The Clinton.
