Free outdoor show by Nashville singer-songwriter Nanseera, blending Americana, contemporary folk and acoustic soul.
Nanseera plays the Leaven Community Center on Saturday, October 17, from 7 PM to 9:30 PM. She's a Nashville-based singer-songwriter with a background that explains a lot of the ground her music covers: born in London, raised in Uganda and Ethiopia, she moved to the US for high school and college and spent some time studying in France. That's a lot of borders to cross before settling into a songwriting career, and it shows in the way she approaches her songs.
Her sound sits at the crossroads of Americana, contemporary folk, and acoustic soul. She draws from artists like Tracy Chapman, Lianne LaHavas, and Sheryl Crow, and the songs she builds around those influences are poetic stories about losing home, love, and a sense of self—and then finding them again. It's the kind of writing that doesn't shy away from the harder parts of that process.
She describes her live show as bringing songs from the soul and songs about joyful resistance. That second phrase—joyful resistance—is a good way to frame what she does: music that acknowledges the struggle but doesn't stop there. If you're into folk and soul that leans more toward the storytelling side than the polished side, this is right in that wheelhouse.
