Concert by English fingerstyle guitarist Mike Dawes at the Mission Theater in Portland.
Mike Dawes plays the Mission Theater on Friday, October 9, with doors at 7 PM and the show starting at 8 PM. Tickets start at $40.50.
If you're not familiar with his name, you've probably seen his videos. Dawes is a Bristol-born guitarist who built his reputation on a specific, tricky skill: composing, arranging, and performing multiple parts at once on a single guitar. He plays the bass line, the chords, and the melody all at the same time, and that's what earned him a place among the world's most creative modern fingerstyle players. Total Guitar Magazine and MusicRadar reader polls named him Best Acoustic Guitarist in the World in 2017 and 2018.
His first big break came from a solo guitar arrangement of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," which became a viral YouTube hit. He followed that with arrangements of U2's "One," The Weeknd's "The Impossible," and Van Halen's "Jump." Since then, he's worked across a wide range of styles. He recorded the duet "Accomplice Vol. 3" with Grammy winner Tommy Emmanuel, played with the metal band Periphery, and appeared on several Justin Hayward live releases, including Spirits...Live, which debuted at number two on the US Billboard chart.

The Mission Theater is at 1624 NW Glisan St in Portland, doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM, tickets from $40.50.
