Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez brings holiday cheer with a blend of mariachi and Christmas classics, including The Nutcracker Suite and Feliz Navidad.
Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernåndez is back at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Wednesday, December 9, 2026, as part of a 16-city national holiday tour. The show is called Merry-achi Christmas, and it does exactly what the title suggests: it blends mariachi standards with Christmas classics. You'll hear things like "The Nutcracker Suite," "The Christmas Song," and "Feliz Navidad," along with selections from their Latin Grammy-nominated album Romances Eternos.
For context, this is a ten-time GRAMMY-nominated ensemble that's been around since 1981. They've played in North Korea, China, England, Spain, the Bahamas, and Saudi Arabia, performed for five U.S. presidents, and collaborated with Selena, Celia Cruz, Luis Miguel, Linda Ronstadt, and the Beach Boys. Founder and director JosĂ© HernĂĄndez recently marked 50 years of preserving the mariachi genre. Beyond the stage, he runs the Mariachi Heritage Society, a nonprofit that provides mariachi education to students in Orange and Los Angeles counties, and he created Mariachi Reyna de Los Ăngeles, the first all-female professional mariachi ensemble in the United States.
