Screening of the phantasmagorical Euro nightmare from Belgian filmmaker Harry Kümel as part of the Horror October festival at Clinton Street Theater.
Clinton Street Theater is screening Malpertuis on Monday, October 12, at 7 PM. It's a 1972 Belgian film directed by Harry Kümel, a phantasmagorical Euro nightmare that fits right into the theater's current mood.
The screening is part of Horror October, the theater's annual month-long program of cult classics, international horror, midnight movies, and Halloween-themed oddities. This year's edition runs from October 1 to 27, and it's more than just a list of movies—the whole month includes special screenings, live performances, and guest appearances. Malpertuis is one of the international titles they've pulled in for the lineup.
If you're not familiar with the theater's horror roots, it also hosts GuignolFest, Portland's original 72-hour horror film contest. Dylan Hillerman and Julia Reodica started it back in 2009, and over 17 years it's turned out more than 200 horror shorts made right here in Portland. That local horror scene is a good place to keep in mind when you see the kind of programming they run this time of year.
