Concert by singer-songwriter Laura Veirs, featuring her latest album 'Temple Songs', with special guest Karl Blau.
Laura Veirs plays Polaris Hall on Saturday, October 24, with Karl Blau opening. It's a hometown show for Veirs, who lives here in Portland, and it comes just a couple of months after her latest record, Temple Songs, which came out on August 14. That album is a bit of a milestone for her: it's the first one she's fully recorded and produced on her own.
If you're not familiar with her work, Veirs is a singer-songwriter who's put out 15 albums over 28 years. She's toured internationally and worked with a long list of namesβk.d. lang, Neko Case, Sufjan Stevens, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists, and Bill Frisell. Her music sits where the poetic side of contemporary folk meets the melodic framework of indie rock, and Temple Songs is the newest addition to that catalog.
Beyond the music, she's a published author, a podcaster, a teacher, and a painter, and she's based right here in the city. That makes this one a local return rather than a tour stop. Karl Blau opens the night, so there's a full bill before she takes the stage.
