A laser show reinterpreting the retro vibe of Stranger Things in the Kendall Planetarium, featuring 1980s tunes and soundscapes from all five seasons.
Laser Stranger Things 5 is coming to the Kendall Planetarium at OMSI on Friday, October 16, as part of a run of Friday and Saturday shows throughout October. It's a laser show that takes the Stranger Things universe and puts it inside the planetarium dome, reinterpreting the 1980s tunes and soundscapes from all five seasons in vibrant laser light. If you've followed the series from the beginning, it's a chance to hear the music from the early seasons alongside the newer stuff, all tied together under one roof.
The venue is the Harry C. Kendall Planetarium, a 200-seat, 52-foot domed theatre that's one of the most technologically advanced in the Pacific Northwest. It runs Sky-Skan's DigitalSky Dark Matter simulation system and a Definiti full-dome projection system powered by high-spec NVidia graphics computers. The laser installation itself uses six Rainbow FX projectors from the Laser Fantasy Rainbow FX system, which put out about 15 watts of laser lightβa big jump from the less than three watts the previous system managed, and it does it using a fraction of the electricity. The planetarium was recently renovated and also hosts meetings, concerts, and private laser light shows.

Heads up: the show may contain adult language or themes. It runs at 7 PM on select Fridays and Saturdays in October, with the October 16 date falling on a Friday. The planetarium is inside OMSI at 1945 SE Water Ave in Portland.
