Screening of the animated film 'In Waves' followed by a Q&A with director Phuong Mai Nguyen and graphic novel author AJ Dungo.
Tomorrow Theater is screening In Waves on Wednesday, October 21, followed by a Q&A with director Phuong Mai Nguyen and the author of the original graphic novel, AJ Dungo. The film is an animated adaptation of Dungo's graphic memoir, a love story that pulls together surfing, art, grief, and the ways we keep the people we love alive.
The story follows AJ, a shy teenager in Los Angeles who meets Kristen. She lives for surfing, while he's more into skateboarding and drawing. The two fall in love, and when Kristen faces a sudden illness, they find strength in their shared passion for the ocean. Stephanie Hsu and Will Sharpe provide the voices. The Q&A brings together the director and the real-life AJ Dungo, so you'll get to hear from the person the whole thing is based on.
