Film concert with the Oregon Symphony performing John Williams' Harry Potter score while scenes play on a giant screen.
The Oregon Symphony is bringing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in Concert to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall for two performances in May 2027. It's a film concert, which means the movie plays on a giant screen while the symphony performs the score live in the room. The music is by John Williams, and it's the same score that defined the magical world of Hogwarts from the start, with "Hedwig's Theme" leading the way.
The film itself is based on J.K. Rowling's novel and launched one of the most beloved series in cinema. Hearing the orchestral score live changes the experience from watching a movie to sitting in a concert hall with the music filling the space around you, rather than coming through speakers. If you've seen the film a dozen times, this is a different way to go through it.
Behind the music is the Oregon Symphony, founded in 1896, the oldest orchestra on the West Coast. They're a Grammy-nominated "History Maker" known for programming that reaches beyond the classical canon, blending in jazz, indie, and hip hop, and collaborating with artists like The Decemberists, esperanza spalding, and Rick Ross. This is one of those crossover nights that brings their orchestral side to a story most of us already know.
