Indie-folk concert by Great Lake Swimmers presenting their album Caught Light at Mission Theater, with support from Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter.
Great Lake Swimmers are playing the Mission Theater on Friday, October 30, as part of their Caught Light tour. They're an indie-folk group from Southern Ontario led by Tony Dekker, and they've been around since the early 2000s. Back then they made a name for themselves recording in old silos and rural country churches, and they've kept that same homespun folk and intimate Americana going live ever since.
They're touring Caught Light, the album they released in October 2025. It was cut in just five days in Ontario's Ganaraska Forest with producer Darcy Yates of Bahamas and engineer Jimmy Bowskill of Blue Rodeo. Since it came out, the band has been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, nominated twice for a Juno Award, and called "a national treasure" by the CBC.
Opening for them is Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter, a duo formed in Seattle in 2001 by singer-songwriter Jesse Sykes and guitarist Phil Wandscher. Their sound pulls from dark folk, blues, traditional country, and psychedelic stylings. Sykes has also collaborated with Sunn O))) and Boris on the album Altar.
