A screening of the Japanese kaiju film Godzilla Minus Zero in Japanese with English subtitles at OMSI's Empirical Theater.
Godzilla Minus Zero opens at OMSI's Empirical Theater on Friday, November 6, with screenings at 6 PM and 9 PM. After opening night, the film continues through November 19. It's presented in Japanese with English subtitles, rated R, and runs 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The story is set in a war-reduced Japan that Godzilla has plunged into "minus." Two years have passed, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to recover, only for a new threat to strike and crush hope. It's a heavy setup, and the R rating gives you a good idea of the tone.
Seeing it at the Empirical Theater makes some sense for a monster movie. It's the biggest screen in Portland and uses Dolby Atmos for its immersive experiences. The theater handles three types of programs: new Hollywood releases, Reel Science, where the museum brings science to life on the big screen, and Reel Eats, a tray of bites paired with moments during a favorite film. This falls into the first category.
