Free folk concert by singer-songwriter Gina DeNoble, who plays guitar and blends soulful vocals with occasional blues, at NASO.
Gina DeNoble plays NASO in Portland on Saturday, October 17, starting at 5 PM. She's a vocalist and songwriter living in the area who plays guitar and sings deep, textured, soulful folk with occasional blues elements. The sound draws comparisons to Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, and Joan Armatrading—three voices known for their distinct presence and songwriting.
DeNoble is a Pacific Northwesterner who grew up near Mount Rainier National Park. She wrote her debut full-length album, Wanderer's Paradise, while traveling between Washington, Canada, and Alaska. After an almost 15-year hiatus, she returned to the stage in 2023 and has since played venues and festivals across the Pacific Northwest, including her debut at Seattle's Northwest Folklife Festival and a performance at Breitenbush Hot Springs.
Her history with the region goes back further than that. In 2001, at age 16, she was voted in by 107.7 The End listeners as the lead singer of Perfect Strangers, a band formed from strangers through the station's 'Making An End Band' promotion. She was also a featured guest on the national radio program River City Folk with Tom May.
