Indie rock duo Frog perform live at the historic Aladdin Theater in Portland, blending folk sensibilities with experimental rock.
Frog play the Aladdin Theater on Wednesday, October 21, starting at 8 PM. They're a two-person guitar band from New Rochelle, New York, and this is their only act on the bill.
They first appeared with a self-titled debut mini-album on Brooklyn's now-defunct Monkfish Records, which Gold Flake Paint called "the best American guitar record of the year." They returned in 2015 with the full-length Kind of Blah on Audio Antihero, which gave them the fan-favorite singles "Judy Garland" and "Photograph." Their UK tour from that period was later documented in the 2018 film Kings of Blah. November 2018 brought Whatever We Probably Already Had, followed in August 2019 by the freak-folk opus Count Bateman, home to the sleeper stoner hit "You Know I'm Down."
Their sound blends folk sensibilities with an experimental rock edge, built on introspective lyrics, intricate arrangements and quirky storytelling. It's a guitar-led approach that doesn't always stay in one lane, moving from the folkier side of things toward the more experimental rock end of the spectrum.
