Oregon Symphony concert conducted by David Danzmayr with violinist Simone Porter, featuring Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 and Mozart's 'Turkish' Violin Concerto.
David Danzmayr and Simone Porter take the stage at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Saturday, May 22, 2027, and again on Sunday, May 23. Danzmayr is the Oregon Symphony's music director and conductor, and Porter is the featured violinist for the program.
The concert pairs two very different works. One is Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 in D minor, a monumental piece the Austrian composer worked on for more than a decade before he died while writing the fourth movement. It's left as a three-movement work, known for its wide orchestral range and extremes of expression. The other is Mozart's most ambitious violin concerto, the Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, better known as the 'Turkish' for its rollicking finale.
Simone Porter is an Artist-in-Residence with the symphony, and her appearance here is sponsored by Drs. Cliff and Karen Deveney. She's a young violinist who started early: born in 1996, she made her professional solo debut at age 10 with the Seattle Symphony and her international debut at 13 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. In March 2015, she received an Avery Fisher Career Grant. Since then, she's played with the New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles Philharmonics, and has worked with conductors including Stéphane Denève, Gustavo Dudamel, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Nicholas McGegan, Ludovic Morlot, and Donald Runnicles.
