Competitive improv comedy cage match where six comedians play games on the spot and the audience votes to decide who is left standing.
Curious Comedy Showdown is back at the Curious Comedy Theater this Saturday, October 17, at 7:30 PM. It's the flagship show for Curious Comedy, a Portland improv theater that describes its mission as improving people's lives through comedy, with a particular focus on providing a platform for underserved voices. The theater is located at 5225 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd in Northeast Portland.
The format is billed as "the Hunger Games of Comedy," and it's easy to see why. Six of the city's comedians go head-to-head in a competitive improv cage match, building fast-paced scenes on the spot across a series of games. The audience votes throughout the night to decide who gets cut and who stays, until only one person is left standing. If you're a fan of Whose Line Is It Anyway!, this is exactly that kind of energy—everything is made up on the fly, and the whole thing is played for laughs.
Over the years, it's become a bit of a Portland go-to for first dates, date nights, birthdays, bachelorette parties, company events, and girls' nights out. The room is the theater's cabaret-style main stage, with a full bar and food served, and free parking in the lot behind the venue. It's the kind of spot where you can grab a drink and settle in for the evening.
