Alt-country and Americana singer-songwriter Chris Acker performs his latest record 'Famous Lunch' with opening act Lucas Benoit at The Showdown Saloon.
Chris Acker plays The Showdown Saloon on Saturday, November 14, with Portland folk-rock fixture Lucas Benoit opening. The show starts at 8 PM.
Acker is an alt-country and Americana singer-songwriter who grew up in Seattle before making the New Orleans Americana scene his own. He writes in the tradition of Woody Guthrie and John Prine, and he describes his songs as candid looks at the stale plight of the American Songster, pairing a quavering voice with the rough-and-ready romance of the unremarkable and unrefined. His songwriting draws on the folk revival and the golden age of country music, and he says it's informed as much by punk shows as by brass bands.
He arrives in Portland with his latest record, Famous Lunch, which moves between country rock and tender folk. Opening for him is Lucas Benoit, a Portland folk-rock fixture known for honest storytelling and jangling melodies. The two together make for a full evening of Americana, with Benoit starting the night and Acker taking over for the main set.
