Stumptown Stages produces the Tony Award-winning musical Annie, based on the comic strip by Harold Gray.
Stumptown Stages brings Annie to the Dolores Winningstad Theatre starting Friday, November 27, and it runs through December 20, 2026. It's the Tony Award-winning musical based on the comic strip by Harold Gray, so it's the version most of us know: the red-headed orphan, the search for family, and the songs that have stuck around long after the original run.
If you're not familiar with the venue, the Dolores Winningstad Theatre is at 1111 SW Broadway in downtown Portland. It opened in 1987 as part of Antoinette Hatfield Hall, and it's built a bit differently than your standard theater. The seating and the stage can be reconfigured, which means the whole room can become part of the performance rather than just a place to sit and watch. It's a 304-seat house that hosts theater, dance, chamber music and experimental productions.
The theater got its name from Dolores Winningstad. In 1984, her husband Norman surprised her on their 39th wedding anniversary with a donation that gave the space her name. It's been running as part of the hall since it opened, and the 304-seat capacity keeps things on the smaller side, so you're never far from the action.
