Ghost tours are an easy place to start. The Olympic Club Ghost Tour runs on Thursdays — October 15, 22 and 29 — with slots at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm, and the White Eagle Ghost Tour takes over the White Eagle Saloon & Hotel in North Portland on Fridays — October 16, 23 and 30, also at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Both are open to all ages, though some content leans mature or scary. For something more low-key, Old Town Pizza & Brewing in Old Town leans into the legend of its resident ghost, Nina, and runs underground tours.
If you'd rather be chased than told a story, the haunted houses are the main event. The Fear PDX at 12219 NE Glisan Street in Northeast Portland runs multiple themed horror experiences, while ScareGrounds PDX at Oaks Amusement Park in Southeast Portland keeps its gates open Fridays through Sundays in October, with SilverScream — a haunted ride based on a cursed movie set — headlining the 2026 lineup. Out on Sauvie Island, Bella Organic Farm's Haunted Corn Maze runs Friday and Saturday nights through October 30, with a no-contact rule and a costume party on its final night. A bit further afield, Cinema of Horrors at Three Rivers Mall in Kelso, Washington, packs four indoor haunted houses with live actors into one site, and The Nightmare Factory continues its long run at the Oregon School for the Deaf in Salem.
McMenamins is running a parallel season of its own. The Samhain pop-up bars are open 21-and-over from Tuesday, October 13 through Halloween, with The Annex at the Crystal Hotel in Portland among the locations. Beyond that, the calendar fills up fast: Haunted Ballroom Trivia at Edgefield on Friday, October 16; Moonlight, A Spellbound Cabaret and Miz Kitty's Parlour Halloween Fall Frolic both on Saturday, October 17; Halloween Themed Bingo at Old St. Francis School on Friday, October 23; a Pumpkin Carving Party at Hotel Oregon on Saturday, October 24; and Hallo-Wine Pairings at Edgefield from Monday, October 26 through Halloween. The season wraps with Dia de los Muertos at Edgefield on Friday, October 30, and a pair of trick-or-treat events on Halloween afternoon — one at the Kennedy School and another on Third Street at Hotel Oregon. After dark, the Crystal Ballroom hosts Scarlett Marketing's 26th Annual Portland Erotic Ball, 21-and-over, starting at 8:00 pm.
A few practical notes before you head out. Most of the haunted attractions recommend comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, and a jacket or sweatshirt is a good idea given the autumn weather. Cinema of Horrors allows costumes but asks you to skip full masks, weapons or excessively large outfits. And if you're planning on the corn maze, keep in mind it's a no-contact maze with no costumes, makeup, lights or flashlights allowed inside, so read the rules before you go.
