A mixed-media portrait workshop for ages 10-13 led by artist Azza Gasim, inspired by exhibitions at The Box, in partnership with Big Sis CIC.
Azza Gasim is leading a mixed-media portrait workshop for 10 to 13-year-olds at The Box on Sunday 16 August. The session is called This is Me: Creative Portrait Making, and it takes its starting point from the exhibitions currently on at the museum.
Gasim is a UK-based interdisciplinary artist whose work stretches across art, music, fashion and photography. She's worked in both Dubai and the UK through her own Azza's Gallery, and that cross-disciplinary approach is exactly what the workshop is built on — mixing different media rather than sticking to one. The session is run in partnership with Big Sis CIC, a Plymouth charity that focuses on adolescent well-being, with a particular eye on girls and non-binary young people going through puberty and pre-puberty. They deliver arts-based mental health and well-being programmes in schools and across the community, so the creative side of the day sits alongside that focus on young people's well-being.
Once the making is done, Big Sis CIC gives a presentation and launches a new creative activity pack for young people, which is open to all the participants and their families. It's a good bit of extra to take home after the session.
