Rip It Up – Cut And Paste! – Zine Workshop

Fotonow is hosting two street photography and zine-making workshops for young people this September, as part of the Rip It Up season running across the UK. The first is on Friday 18 September from 5pm to 7pm, and the second on Saturday 26 September from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Both run for two hours at Fotonow, 107 Cornwall Street in the city centre.

The workshops are part of Cut and Paste!, the local strand of the BFI FAN season Rip It Up, which looks at youth rebellion, culture and expression on screen in the UK. Cut and Paste! takes film as a starting point and asks what it feels like to be young in the city, adding zine-making and archive exploration for a playful, experimental, punk element built around the idea of ripping the old things up and making something brand new. The season is supported by the BFI Film Audience Network, with funds from the National Lottery, and the workshops run in partnership with Fotonow and The Box.

They're open to participants aged 15-25, with 12 spaces per session and advance booking required. All the equipment is provided, so you don't need to bring your own kit. The cost is £5, and that includes a cinema pass for the season's three films at Plymouth Arts Cinema, so you get the screenings as well as the workshop. If you're in that age group and fancy spending a couple of hours making something from scratch, it's a good way into the wider season.
