RIP IT UP – CUT AND PASTE! – Zine Workshop

Fotonow is hosting a digital zine workshop on Saturday 3 October, from 11am to 2pm. It's part of Rip It Up – Cut and Paste!, the 2026 BFI FAN season that looks at youth rebellion, culture and expression on screen across the UK. The local strand here is called Cut and Paste!, and it uses film as a starting point to ask what it feels like to be young in the city. The workshop is the playful, experimental side of that: ripping the old things up to make something brand new.

It's not just sitting in one room for three hours. The group meets at Plymouth Arts Cinema on Tavistock Place, then heads to The Box archive to go through their collections stores. From there, you'll take what you've found and edit it into a digital zine, which will eventually be screened at the cinema. It's co-delivered as part of The Box's BFI-funded Reframing the Region programme and run in partnership with Fotonow and The Box, with support from the BFI Film Audience Network via National Lottery funding.

The session is open to anyone aged 15 to 25, and there are only six spaces, so you'll need to book in advance. It costs £5, and that includes access to all the film screenings in the Rip It Up – Cut and Paste! season at Plymouth Arts Cinema — three films in total. So for the price of the workshop, you get the archive trip, the zine-making, and the cinema season to go with it. It runs from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 3 October, starting at Plymouth Arts Cinema.
