Pop-up screening of the slasher film Halloween with a social drink afterwards at Wilful Beer.
Wilful Beer is hosting a pop-up screening of Halloween (1978) on Wednesday 21 October, running from 18:30 to 22:00. It's the original slasher that basically built the subgenre, so if you've only ever seen the newer sequels or the remakes, this is the one that started it all.
For those who haven't caught it, the story follows Michael Myers, who murders his sister on Halloween night in 1963. Fifteen years later, he escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, to start killing again. It's a slow-burn of a film, more about the tension and the shape in the shadows than the gore, which is why it still works as a proper horror movie rather than just a piece of nostalgia.
There are a couple of extras that make this more than just a movie night. Popcorn is included, and you'll get a limited edition Halloween X Eek! poster, a collaboration with a local creative. Once the credits roll, the night doesn't just end there: there's a social drink and a chat afterwards, so you can stay on and talk through the film with everyone else in the room rather than just heading home.
