Family Fun: Express Yourself

The Box is running Family Fun: Express Yourself from 22 July to 27 August, a summer programme of creative sessions for children aged 4 to 11, who need to be accompanied by an adult. It's a drop-in setup, so you don't need to book ahead—just turn up when it suits you. The sessions run twice a day, at 12:15pm and 3:15pm, and they're built around the museum's summer exhibitions, so the making goes hand-in-hand with what's on the walls.

There's a fair bit to get stuck into. You'll find crafts based on Dartmoor, and the University of Plymouth is bringing in bug-handling equipment for the kids to use. There are activities tied to the 42 Little Lights lighthouse display, and gelli-plate printing inspired by the abstract painter Gillian Ayres, whose work is in the A Life in Colour exhibition. The whole thing kicks off on 24 July with History Hunters Day, a special session run with the Dartmoor National Park Authority.

If you're looking for something a bit quieter, they're also running 'Quiet and Calm' sessions on specific dates, though those do need to be booked in advance. The rest of the programme is open to anyone who wants to pop in.

Entry is free, though they suggest a donation of £3. The Box is on Tavistock Place in the city centre, and the sessions run from 22 July right through to 27 August, with the 12:15pm and 3:15pm slots running throughout.
