Family yoga sessions inspired by the paintings of Gillian Ayres at The Box Plymouth, suitable for children aged 4-11.
The Box is running Creative Calm: Family Yoga on Sunday mornings throughout the summer holidays, with the first session on 2 August. It's a series of family yoga classes held inside the Gillian Ayres: A Life in Colour exhibition, which is part of the museum's Summer Holidays 2026 programme.
The sessions take their lead from Ayres' work—her paintings are known for their vibrant colours and expressive style, and that's what the yoga is built around. Rather than just a class in a room, you're moving through the exhibition itself, so you're looking at the art while you do it. The sessions combine gentle movement, imaginative storytelling, breathing, and relaxation, and the whole thing is designed to be a calm, joyful, and mindful way to explore the paintings together. It's aimed at children aged 4 to 11, and every child needs to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
If you're coming, there are a couple of practical things to keep in mind. Tickets are required for everyone, and yoga mats are available to borrow—one per person—so you don't need to bring your own. The sessions run from 10:30 to 11:15 on a selection of Sunday mornings between 2 August and 30 August, and they're priced at £6 for adults and £6 for children.

Beyond this, The Box has a fair bit more for families on the go. They run sensory sessions for 1 to 4-year-olds during term-time, weekly storytelling sessions, and a range of themed family and holiday events throughout the year, many of which are free. If you're already heading in for the yoga, it's worth checking what else is on.
